FAQ

Electrical FAQs

  • When should I consider calling an electrician?

You should contact an electrician for any electrical work you are not trained to handle. Electricity is hazardous; even if you feel confident, you shouldn't attempt it. Being too comfortable can lead to accidents and injuries. Always respect electricity and leave it to the professionals.

  • Why would I need a new electrical circuit?

You may need a new circuit in your home for several reasons:

    1. Damage: Rodents or other factors might have damaged the circuit's home run.

    2. New Appliances: Adding new appliances that require dedicated circuits.

    3. Overloading: If you have too much load on one circuit, causing it to overload.

  • What do I do if my circuit keeps overloading?

If a circuit keeps overloading, try redistributing the load by plugging devices into outlets on different circuits. Then, contact an electrician to install a new circuit to handle the load properly.

  • I have too many power strips behind my entertainment center and want to reduce the clutter. How can Fiedler Electric help me?

Too many power strips can be a fire hazard. We can add more receptacles behind your entertainment center to reduce clutter and enhance safety.

  • Can you change an existing switch to a dimmer switch?

Yes, we can replace your existing switch with a dimmer switch. However, this might also require replacing your bulbs with dimmable ones.

  • Why does a breaker in my panel feel hot to the touch?

If a breaker feels hot, it needs immediate attention. Contact an electrician immediately, as this could indicate arcing behind the breaker or a failing breaker, which are serious hazards.

  • How can I tell when an electrical outlet is unsafe or needs replacing?

    1. Loose Fit: If plugs fit loosely in the outlet.

    2. Discoloration: Any signs of discoloration.

    3. Backstabbed Outlets: Outlets with backstabbed connections should be replaced immediately. These connections can become loose and cause arcing, a fire hazard. Always use outlets with screw terminal connections for safety.
